Study Guide and  Troubleshooting

Symptom

Suspect area

Remedy

Study Engine misfire with abnormal internal lower engine noises.

Loose or improperly installed engine flywheel.

Repair or replace the flywheel as required.

Faulty cylinder head gasket and/or cracking or other damage to the cylinder head and engine block cooling system.

Coolant consumption may or may not cause the engine to overheat.

Inspect the cylinder head and engine block for damage to the coolant passages and/or a faulty head gasket.

Repair or replace as required.

Study Engine misfire with excessive oil consumption.

Worn valves, valve guides and/or valve stem oil seals.

Repair or replace as required.

Study Worn piston rings.

Inspection the cylinder for a loss of compression.

Incorrect oil viscosity.

Drain the oil.
Install the correct viscosity oil.

Study Upper engine noise, regardless of engine speed.

Low oil pressure.

Repair or replace as required.

Study Broken valve spring.

Replace the valve spring.

Study Worn or dirty valve lifters.

Replace the valve lifters.

Study Stretched or broken timing chain and/or damaged sprocket teeth.

Replace the timing chain and sprockets.

Study Worn timing chain tensioner, if applicable.

Replace the timing chain tensioner as required.

Study Worn camshaft lobes.

Inspect the camshaft lobes.
Replace the camshaft and valve lifters as required.

Study Worn valve guides or valve stems.

Inspect the valves and valve guides, then repair as required.

Study Stuck valves. (Carbon on the valve stem or valve seat may cause the valve to stay open.)

Inspect the valves and valve guides, then repair as required.

Study Lower engine noise, regardless of engine speed.

Low oil pressure.

Repair or replace damaged components as required.

Study Loose or damaged flywheel.

Repair or replace the flywheel.

Study Damaged oil pan, contacting the oil pump screen.

Inspect the oil pan.

Study Incorrect piston, piston pin and connecting rod installation.

Verify the piston pins and connecting rods are installed correctly.
Repair as required.

Study Engine noise under load.

Low oil pressure.

Repair or replace as required.

Study Excessive connecting rod bearing clearance.

Inspect the following components and repair as required.

The connecting rod bearings.

The connecting rods.

The crankshaft.

Study Excessive crankshaft bearing clearance.

Inspect the following components and repair as required.

The crankshaft bearings.

The crankshaft journals.

The cylinder block crankshaft bearing bore.

Study Engine will not crank. (crankshaft will not rotate)

Hydraulically locked cylinder.

Coolant/antifreeze in cylinder.

Oil in cylinder.

Fuel in cylinder.

Remove spark plugs and check for fluid.
Inspect for broken head gasket.
Inspect for cracked engine block or cylinder head.
Inspect for a sticking fuel injector and/or leaking fuel regulator.

Study Broken timing chain and/or timing chain gears.

A).Study Guide and Auto Repair Condition

  1. Engine Not Cranking
    = This a Trouble from Coupe BK that first time encounter, that’s why it is not easy for me to identify where is the trouble occurs but i have a confident that i deed it by the guide of God by using electronic gadget ex.GDS, Scan Tool.

B).Study Guide and Trouble Cause

  1. This trouble occurs due to poor contact of Starter relay pin.

C). Study Guide and Trouble Diagnosis

  1. Scan tool Check w/ GDS and G-Scan
    =No Trouble found from engine and Transmission.
  2. Check for the Key indicator from control panel = OK
  3. Check for the light indicator of FOB button switch = OK
  4. Check for the fuse of starting system = OK
  5. Pull out the starter relay and Check the Positive terminal and Ground terminal = OK
  6. Tightened the relay pin then test to start = It works the engine start

Engine Electrical System

Auto repair and Study guide Description

The starting system Study guide includes the battery, starter, solenoid switch, ignition switch, inhibitor switch (A/T), ignition lock switch, connection wires and the battery cable in Auto repair.

When the ignition key is turned to the start position, current flows and energizes the starter motor's solenoid coil.

The solenoid plunger and clutch shift lever are activated, and the clutch pinion engages the ring gear.

The contacts close and the starter motor cranks. In order to prevent damage caused by excessive rotation of the starter armature when the engine starts, the clutch pinion gear overruns.Auto repair.

Troubleshooting Starter Circuit

 

This Study guide The battery must be in good condition and fully charged.

1.Disconnect the fuel pump connector.as Study guide.

2.With the shift lever in N or P (A/T) or clutch pedal pressed (M/T), turn the ignition switch to "START"

If the starter normally cranks the engine, starting system is OK. If the starter will not crank the engine at all, go to next step.

If it won't disengage from the ring gear when you release key, check for the following until you find the cause.

A.Solenoid plunger and switch malfunction.

B.Dirty pinion gear or damaged overrunning clutch.

3.Auto repair and Study guide ,Check the battery condition. Check electrical connections at the battery, battery negative cable connected to the body, engine ground cables, and the starter for looseness and corrosion. Then try starting the engine again.

If the starter cranks normally the engine, repairing the loose connection repaired the problem. The starting system is now OK.

If the starter still does not crank the engine, go to next step.

4.Disconnect the connector from the S-terminal of solenoid. Connect a jumper wire from the B-terminal of solenoid to the S-terminal of solenoid.

If the starter cranks the engine, go to next step.

If the starter still does not crank the engine, remove the starter, and repair or replace as necessary.

5.Check the following items in the order listed until you find the open circuit.

A.Check the wire and connectors between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the ignition switch, and between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the starter.

B.Check the ignition switch (Refer to ignition system in BE Group).

C.Check the transaxle range switch connector or ignition lock switch connector.

D.Inspect the starter relay.

Auto repair Starter Solenoid Test

1.Disconnect the field coil wire from the M-terminal of solenoid switch.

2.This Study guide ,Connect the battery as shown. If the starter pinion pops out, it is working properly. To avoid damaging the starter, do not leave the battery connected for more than 10 seconds.

3.Disconnect the battery from the M terminal.

If the pinion does not retract, the hold-in coil is working properly. To avoid damaging the starter, do not leave the battery connected for more than 10 seconds.

4.Disconnect the battery also from the body. If the pinion retracts immediately, it is working properly. To avoid damaging the starter, do not leave the battery connected for more than 10 seconds.

Free Running Test

1.Place the starter motor in a vise equipped with soft jaws and connect a fully-charged 12-volt battery

to starter motor as follows.

2.Connect a test ammeter (100-ampere scale) and carbon pile rheostats as shown in the illustration.

3.Connect a voltmeter (15-volt scale) across starter motor.

4.Rotate carbon pile to the off position, Auto repair.

5.Connect the battery cable from battery's negative post to the starter motor body.

6.Adjust until battery voltage shown on the voltmeter reads 11.5volts as Study guide.

7.As Auto repair and Study guide , Confirm that the maximum amperage is within the specifications and that the starter motor turns smoothly and freely.
