2) Cause
  1. immobilizer key.
3) Diagnosis
  1. Scan tool check
    Trouble Code.
    a) P1693 – Immobilizer Transponder.

Almost all Hyundai model are built in with anti theft gadget that what we call immobilizer system. consist of ECM, the SMARTRA3 and the ignition keys with built in transponder.
The ECM carries out the check of ignition key by especial encryption algorithm with SMARTRA3 and transponder. the encryption algorithm (between ECM and SMARTRA3) is used one offered from Bosch. the encryption algorithm (between ECM and Transponder) is Hitag2 type witch is high level.when ignition ON, the ECM executes the key authentication. The engine can be started in case of the success in SMARTRA3 and key Authentication.
The Key teaching procedure start with ECM request of pin from scanner. The ‘virgin’ ECM stores the pin and the key learning can be started. the '”learnt” ECM compares the PIN from tester with the vehicle password in transponder. If the data is correct, the learning can be started. Scanner request the learning of the first key, the SMARTRA3 is registered at first and then first key is registered by ECM. If the SMARTRA3 status is learnt and pin number is different , the SMARTRA3 will return the incorrect pin data to the ECM. in this case, the ECM can’t execute the key learning process.

How to check ECTS (Engine coolant temperature sensor).

Hyundai coolant temperature sensor is also one of the most important in you car today, it control fuel and serve as switch for cooling system.

How to check ECTS( Engine coolant temperature sensor)

The engine coolant water temperature sensor is located in the engine coolant passage of the cylinder head. it detects the water temperature and relay signal to the ECU. it employs a thermistor, which i sensitive to changes in temperature. The electric resistance of a thermistor decreases in response to temperature  rise. The ECU judges engine coolant temperature by the sensor output voltage and provides optimum fuel enrichment when the engine is cold.

 Troubleshooting Hints

When idling speed is not appropriate or blacksmoke arises it is likely to be a defect of water temperature sensor.

Mileage: 126345km
Displacement: 2000cc
Fuel : Diesel
T/A : All
Subject: Engine Stalling When Accelerating in Cold Condition – Fuel Tube
1) Condition
  1. Engine Stalling in Cold Condition When Accelerating Suddenly.
    = Normal In Idling Condition.
= Engine stalls more frequently in cold condition than in heat condition.
  2. Engine stalls intermittently when driving in heating condition.
= Normal in idling condition, but the engine stalls when driving on hilly road or decelerating suddenly
    .
2) Cause
  1. Due to the fluctuation of low pressure tube, the fuel is not supplied enough so the engine stalls when accelerating.
3) Diagnosis
  1. Scan tool check.
= Diagnostic trouble code( P1181 = Fuel pressure monitoring fail.
= Current data = Normal in cold and idling condition.(WGT).
= The fuel pressure control valve increases abnormally when accelerating the engine suddenly.
  2. Inspect the rail pressure(from low pressure to high pressure).
= Check the pressure after stalling the fuel pressure gauge to low pressure line( The line between the low pressure pump and fuel filter)
= The pressure is measured by 2.8 in idling condition.
    ( STANDARD VALUE 2.5~2.8 bar)
    =
The pressure after installing the fuel pressure gauge between the filter and high pressure pump.
= Normal pressure in idling condition.
= The fuel pressure decreases rapidly when decelerating after the fuel pressure gauge is installed.
  3. Inspect the fuel filter.
= Drain the water from the fuel filter.
= Check if there are remains in fuel filter after discharging the fuel.
  4. Check the line from fuel filter to high pressure pump.
= The tube near by fuel filter has been damaged.
4) Repair Guides
  1. P1181 (C010) is related to fuel pressure. This is a basis of diagnosis.
  2. Damage of tube may be occurred when producing the tube.
The engine stalls in cold condition frequently because the fuel tube is contracted  in cold condition more than in heating condition. Therefore the fuel is not supplied enough to high pressure pump. Compared with this, in heating condition, the amount of contraction is small so the problem is not occurred.
  3. If the fuel pressure malfunction is suspected, inspect the fuel pressure data and fuel pressure regulator  data in G- Scan with below condition.
  4. P1181 (C010) fuel pressure monitoring fail ( fuel pressure high idle ) code
= this code is displayed when abnormal fuel pressure is detected.
